Quote of the Week

(Sidenote: I don't know what's up with the quote of the week that never goes away. Every time I go onto blogger it's right there at the top. Weird.)

"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

Quote of the Week

"I DO NOT WANT TO BE THE LEADER. I REFUSE TO BE THE LEADER. I WANT TO LIVE DARKLY AND RICHLY IN MY FEMALENESS. I WANT A MAN LYING OVER ME, ALWAYS OVER ME. HIS WILL, HIS PLEASURE, HIS DESIRE, HIS LIFE, HIS WORK, HIS SEXUALITY THE TOUCHSTONE, THE COMMAND, MY PIVOT. I DON’T MIND WORKING, HOLDING MY GROUND INTELLECTUALLY, ARTISTICALLY; BUT AS A WOMAN, OH, GOD, AS A WOMAN I WANT TO BE DOMINATED. I DON’T MIND BEING TOLD TO STAND ON MY OWN FEET, NOT TO CLING, BE ALL THAT I AM CAPABLE OF DOING, BUT I AM GOING TO BE PURSUED, FUCKED, POSSESSED BY THE WILL OF A MALE AT HIS TIME, HIS BIDDING." - ANAIS NIN

A Smarter Way

Peeps,
A very beloved teacher once told a class of roughly twenty students a very simple quote (of which I'm sure wasn't of his own making) that has stuck with me. The phrase is simple and well applied to me.

Work smarter, not harder

I am definitely a do-it-the-hard-way type person. If I can make a whale out of a simple sardine-type project, I go at it with gusto. I think it's because I can never see the simple way of doing it. I always have to go the extra mile to get around the corner. So in times when I'm sure there's an easier way of doing things, I think about this quote and wonder what I can do to make things more efficient.
I think in relationships, we all have the tendency to work harder, not smarter. A simple question worded wrong can end up in volcanic arguments.

Or what may seem to be a gigantic problem could be solved by your loved one with a small dismissive wave of their hand.
Sometimes I'll be struggling with something so simple, like for instance not touching things that very obviously just came out of the oven. Solution: oven mitts. I've learned that oven mitts are basically a fact of my life. I use them for things in the microwave, oven, hot cups, hot forks, and until recently I flipped tortillas with them. (but then my mom said that I shouldn't do that as the oven mitt might catch on fire, tee hee) Work smarter, not harder.
Peeps, repeat this mantra, work smarter, not harder.

Something to think about

Peeps,
So here I am watching that movie He's Just Not That Into You, and thinking if the people in this movie would just open themselves up to loving more than one person, everyone would've been a hell of a lot happier. Except for the couple with the to-marry or not-to-marry problem, that would not have been solved with other people involved. Or maybe it would've, you never know. It, oh, I don't know, irritates? annoys? baffles me, that people would close themselves off to more love. People seem to be killing themselves over trying to get that one perfect person. I think if people believed there was more than one person, they wouldn't put all of this pressure on themselves to find this one person. I think if people thought they'd have more than one chance at happiness, that they would be able to share their lives with more than one person, then they wouldn't worry that they haven't found the one.
I started watching this show called Sister Wives, because polygamy when done right interests me. So I'm watching this family with three wives and countless children, and I'm watching their commitment to each other, and to their marriage. I'm watching how they all chip in for everything and there is this unyielding love, and I don't know I was in awe of it. Yeah, they had their jealousies, and their insecurity, but their commitment to each other never diminished.
I don't know where this post was going peeps, but I hope it at least gave you something to think about.

Achoo!

Peeps,
Being sick is no fun. We all know this. If you happen to be an Ev, being sick means that your entire body will fail you, immensely. It means that even a common cold will make you so loopy, that standing is hazardous as all sense of balance has been misplaced. It must be cold or flu season again because everyone around me is falling prey to it. Suckage major. I hope everyone is washing their hands double time. S'all for now peeps.

A Quote

Peeps,
A quote to start the new year from my favorite book The Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee.
"A rose by any other name, would get the blame for being what it is
the color of a kiss, the shadow of a flame
a rose may earn another name, so call it love, so call it love I will
and love is like the sea which changes constantly, and yet, is still the same"- Jane
